Bears Return to Four Creeks
Posted on Apr 10th, 2014
As of this past Tuesday, April 8th, bears have returned to our Four Creeks community.  They are actively seeking out birdfeeders (the ones in our yard are all down now, except the hummingbird feeders the bears do not seem to bother) and any other pet foods left outside.  Based on our yard and experience over several years, the bears most often return to our area around the first week of April and are in the vicinity into October.  They usually come through at night, but in the past a mother bear with one or more cubs can also be seen during day light hours especially if their native foods are scarce such as the blackberries were a couple years ago during a couple very wet summers.  The will also search through garbage cans left out too early before collection on Friday mornings.
So, to minimize the damage remove your bird feeders (suet and seed), any pet food, and don't place full garbage cans out until just prior to collection.

If you walk your dog at night and want to be prepared in case you see a bear in your path, one means it to carry an air horn so in case you feel endangered you can scare the bear off with the air horn.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has some additional information on dealing with black bears:
