We sell the things you carry out of the house on a fine morning and carry back in at dusk: a blanket that keeps the damp off, a hamper that holds a meal for four, mugs that survive being dropped, and a hat with a real brim. Each one is described plainly, limits included.

Choosing

Choosing for a day outside

Start with what is under you. Grass holds dew until late morning, so a blanket with a waxed back, or a separate ground sheet, keeps the afternoon dry. Wool holds warmth when the sun goes in; cotton is lighter to carry and easier to wash.

Enamelware is steel under a glass coating: it will not break, but a hard knock on stone chips it and bare steel rusts if left wet, so dry mugs and plates before they go back in the hamper. A flask keeps tea hot longest if warmed with hot water first.

Straw hats keep their shape only if stored on a flat brim or hung by the crown, never in a hot car. Cotton hats can be washed; raffia should only be brushed.

How ordering works

There is no card field on this site. You fill a basket, send it to us as an order request, and a person reads it before anything is agreed. The reply comes by email with the delivery figure and how to settle.

  1. We read your request the same day it arrives, usually within a few hours.
  2. We check each line against what is actually on our shelves and tell you if anything is short.
  3. You get one reply with the goods total, the delivery figure to your address and how to settle it.
  4. Nothing is owed until you have read that reply and said yes.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell food or drink, only the things to carry and serve them in.
  • We do not hire out blankets, hampers or parasols for the day.
  • We do not ship outside the United States.
